Tax Debt Professionals, Inc. is a Delaware corporation headquartered in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Our founder, a tax attorney who began his career as a CPA, built this with his technical co-founder because the usual model struck them as backwards: most firms want five to eight thousand dollars before telling you anything about your own situation. The IRS publishes its standards, the forms are public, and the arithmetic is arithmetic. We make two products — Turtle Tax for taxpayers, Terrapin Pro for the professionals who help them.

Turtle Tax is for the person who owes the IRS. It begins with our Free Tax Debt Tool, modeled on the IRS’s own pre-qualifier but considerably more detailed. It measures your position against the published IRS Collection Financial Standards and shows what an Offer in Compromise, a payment agreement or hardship status would look like for you — asking no name, no Social Security number and no credit card. The full software then prepares the real IRS forms, and still never stores your SSN, EIN, date of birth or full account numbers. Those fields print blank. You complete them before you sign.

Learn more about Turtle Tax

Terrapin Pro came out of Turtle Tax. Having built software that walks a taxpayer through an IRS collection case, we could see the same work being done by hand in practices every day — so we built a platform that handles the organizing and the arithmetic, leaving attorneys, CPAs and enrolled agents more time for the parts of a case that actually need judgment. It follows the same three ideas as Turtle Tax: trust, understanding and responsibility. And it is entirely separate from our Tax Pro Network, which is free to join, permanently, whether or not a professional ever licenses Terrapin Pro.

Company Questions

Who is Tax Debt Professionals, Inc.?

Tax Debt Professionals, Inc. is a Delaware corporation headquartered in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, building software for people who owe the IRS.

We make two products: Turtle Tax, for taxpayers, and Terrapin Pro, for the professionals who help them.

Why did you build Turtle Tax?

Our founder is a tax attorney who began his career as a CPA. He built Turtle Tax with his technical co-founder because the usual model struck them as backwards: most firms want five to eight thousand dollars before telling you anything about your own situation.

The IRS publishes its standards, the forms are public, and the arithmetic is arithmetic. You should be able to see where you stand before you pay anyone.

What is Turtle Tax?

Turtle Tax is for the person who owes the IRS. It begins with our free Tax Debt Tool, modeled on the IRS’s own pre-qualifier but considerably more detailed. It measures your position against the published IRS Collection Financial Standards and shows what an Offer in Compromise, a payment agreement or hardship status would look like for you. It asks for no name, no Social Security number and no credit card.

The full software then prepares the real IRS forms for you to sign and mail.

Do you store my Social Security number?

No. Turtle Tax never stores your Social Security number, EIN, date of birth or full account numbers. Those fields print blank on your forms, and you complete them before you sign.

See our privacy policy for full details.

What is Terrapin Pro?

Terrapin Pro came out of Turtle Tax. Having built software that walks a taxpayer through an IRS collection case, we could see the same work being done by hand in practices every day.

So we built a platform on the same engine that handles the organizing and the arithmetic, leaving attorneys, CPAs and enrolled agents more time for the parts of a case that actually need judgment.

Is the Tax Pro Network the same as Terrapin Pro?

No. Our Tax Pro Network is entirely separate from Terrapin Pro. It is free to join, permanently, whether or not a professional ever licenses Terrapin Pro.

The Tax Pros in our network are independent, licensed professionals.

What do you stand for?

Everything we build, Turtle Tax for taxpayers and Terrapin Pro for practitioners, follows the same three ideas: Trust, Understanding and Responsibility.

Are you part of the IRS or the government?

No. Tax Debt Professionals, Inc. is a private company. We are not affiliated with, or endorsed by, the IRS or any government agency.

Our tools use the IRS’s published standards and forms, but only the IRS can approve an offer, a payment agreement or hardship status.

Is Tax Debt Pros a law firm?

No. Although our founder is a tax attorney, Tax Debt Pros is not a law firm and does not give legal or tax advice or provide legal representation. Our software gives general information and helps you prepare your own IRS forms.

Regulation of tax resolution services varies by state.

Do you help with state tax debt?

Not at this time. Turtle Tax and the Tax Debt Tool cover federal tax debt owed to the IRS. For state tax debt, contact your state’s tax agency or a tax professional.
