How it works with our Tax Pros.
After using our Free Turtle Tax Tool our customers have an option of purchasing Turtle Tax or selecting a Tax Pro
After purchase of our software, you can still ask for assistance or full representation from a Tax Pro
If you select a Tax Pro, you can most likely save time and money by uploading your case to them for review.

Tax Pro Questions
What is a Tax Pro?
A Tax Pro is an independent, licensed tax professional in our network, such as an enrolled agent, a certified public accountant (CPA) or a tax attorney. These professionals can represent taxpayers before the IRS.
Should I use a Tax Pro or Turtle Tax?
Turtle Tax works well when your situation is straightforward and you’re comfortable completing and mailing your own forms.
A Tax Pro is a better fit when things are more complicated: for example, if you have unfiled tax returns, business or payroll taxes, a levy or wage garnishment already underway, a lien on your property, a bankruptcy, a very large balance, or an IRS revenue officer assigned to your case. A Tax Pro can also help if the IRS has rejected or returned a request.
Can a Tax Pro talk to the IRS for me?
Yes. With your written authorization, usually Form 2848 (Power of Attorney), a Tax Pro can speak and correspond with the IRS on your behalf, so you don’t have to handle the calls and letters yourself.
Are Tax Pros part of Turtle Tax?
No. Tax Pros are independent professionals, not employees of Turtle Tax or Tax Debt Professionals, Inc. Tax Debt Pros is not a law firm and does not provide legal representation. Each Tax Pro is responsible for their own services.
How much does a Tax Pro cost?
Each Tax Pro sets their own fees, which depend on how complex your case is. Ask about fees up front, and get a written fee agreement before you hire anyone.
IRS fees, such as the application fee for an Offer in Compromise, are separate and paid directly to the IRS.
Can I share my Tax Debt Tool or Turtle Tax results with a Tax Pro?
Yes. Your estimate report and your completed forms give a Tax Pro a head start on your case. Share them only with the professional you choose, because they contain your personal and financial details.
Can I start with Turtle Tax and switch to a Tax Pro later?
Yes. You can start on your own and bring in a Tax Pro at any point, for example if your situation turns out to be more complicated than expected, or if the IRS asks for more information.
How do I choose the right Tax Pro?
Check their credentials: you can verify a license with the state board of accountancy, the state bar, or the IRS directory of credentialed tax professionals. Ask about their experience with cases like yours and how they’ll keep you informed.
Be cautious of anyone who guarantees a result or promises to settle your debt for “pennies on the dollar”. Only the IRS can approve a request.
Do Tax Pros speak Spanish?
Some do. If you’d like help in Spanish, ask when you contact a Tax Pro. Our free Tax Debt Tool and Turtle Tax are fully available in Spanish.
